Los Hermanos - Como Tudo Começou

I met Los Hermanos through João Augusto, who was starting Deckdisc. I was still president of Virgin Records in Brazil when he called me talking about a band with a lot of fans at school. Rafael Ramos, whom I already knew from the Baba Cósmica days, was producing their debut album. But it was still early in his career, and João asked me to join in on the production. Anna Júlia was the song that caught my attention the most when I heard the first tape. The band had doubts about it. I insisted. A band starting out needs to get that first sound right, and I knew that was the hit. In this episode I talk about the remote pre-production with Rafael, the weeks of recording at Midas, and the decision that gave Anna Júlia that rock sound that also needed to sound pop enough for the radio. At the end I show the pre-amplifier that recorded the song's introduction and that I still use today.
