Molly Tuttle is an International Bluegrass Music Association champion. She's also a sufferer of alopecia universalis, a disease that causes you to lose all of your body hair. Since coming out about in in a concert years ago she's been a public face for people with the disease, and a promoter of efforts to treat and cure the disease. She knows what it's like to be different. Rather than be crushed, she's risen above and embraced the difference. Crooked Tree is a song about being different. "A Crooked Tree doesn't fit in the mill". It's not just a line in a song. It's a truth one can accept and embrace, or ignore. Yes, it's bluegrass, but the message is universal.
