Testing the Newport Kayak Series 55lb Thrust Motor

Testing the Newport Kayak series electric motor on New Melones Lake in Northern California. Overall, I'm impressed with this motor. I switched the propeller for a 10 inch r/c aircraft propeller, like I did on my Minn Kota Endrua 55 max. I wasn't able to get full speed out of it due to the propeller being set too high in the water column due to the prop being set too high at present. I am confident that I will be able to get full speed from it by the elimination of prop cavitation once the depth collar has been removed from the motor shaft, and perhaps by cutting 1/2 to 1 inch off the ends of both prop blades. We'll see. I did fish for over 5 hours on the lake while using this motor. I found that it runs much too fast at setting #1 if you are trolling for trout, kokanee salmon, of mackinaw. If you are just wanting power to go up a river,or not wanting to use it for trolling, then it should be fine for most other purposes. Just not for trolling for salmonids.
