Midleton Very Rare Irish Whiskey REVIEW || Is it worth $350???

This is meant to be one of the best Irish whiskeys on the market, but today, I am asking, is Midleton Very Rare worth it? Originally released in 1984, Midleton Very Rare, or MVR, has been released annually. It honours the old and new Midleton Distilleries, hence the name, and each release differs slightly, based on the whiskeys available. The Master Blender at Midleton seeks out the best, most well-rounded casks each year to build the release, and while it doesn’t have an age statement, apparently the whiskey included is between 12-20 years old. It is a blend of Pot Still and Grain whiskeys, coming in at 40% ABV. It doesn’t give any breakdown of the blend or the cask use, so we’ll have to guess, but even if they’re using a lot of grain whiskey, when Midleton’s grain ages enough, it turns into this lovely, dense spirit, which is much better than the general opinion people have of grain. However, the price is very steep. It comes in at €240 from the distillery, and I’ve seen stores in America charging more than $320, which, when you add all the sales taxes, can come out to over $350! Midleton Very Rare Tasting Notes Nose Really lovely and approachable on the nose, with vanilla, apples, pears, a touch of stone fruit and baking spices. The more you sit with it, the sweeter it gets, with butterscotch, toffee and honeyed notes. Palate If there was ever a whiskey that deserved to be called "smooth", this would be it, with vanilla creme brulee, crisp orchard fruits and a nicely dense mouthfeel. Finish For a 40% Whiskey, the finish is relatively long, with some stonefruit and spice lingering on with the creamy mouthfeel. Overall, this is a great whiskey. There’s no point denying that this is a wonderfully balanced, full flavoured and densely rich whiskey, with plenty to unpack and enjoy. However, that price is, to me, too high for a 40% NAS blend, especially with some truly amazing whiskeys available for sometimes a third of the price!
