As an important transport hub in Central Switzerland, it connects the standard gauge network of the Swiss Federal Railways with the meter-gauge routes of the Central Railway as well as the course ships of the shipping company of Lake Lucerne. In addition to national long-distance transport and international connections to Milan, the station is the hub of the S-Bahn Lucerne as well as urban and regional bus transport.
