DOOM | D64D2 - Inappropriate Behavior [Cover By DAR] - MAP20

This was actually a request by ZX Spectrum V7.1 for the 2021 Subscriber Appreciation Event! ZX had also made a special request that this be covered a semitone/half-step lower than the original. I've got to say, its really great to finally be able to cover one of CoTeCiO's excellent jams again \m/! Working on this has also been a great refresher for my upcoming return to the D64D2 Marathon. Also, I must thank ZX for his suggestion, as playing this in Drop C (as opposed to Drop C#) sounded quite nice. As always, I tried to stay faithful to the original song. I wound up adding some strings and a choir in the background to fill a bit of space underneath the guitars. I was going to try and make the strings more prominent but decided against it, as I thought what I ended up with here in the cover sounded fine. Plus, I didn't want to take away from these awesome riffs! Also, I added a few drums to the intro bit, since it just felt right to me. I did add some of my own lead parts for the middle of the song (2:18). The original had a repeat of the rhythm/riffs from the first third of the song, and as I listened to it, I felt like it was begging to be noodled on! After noodling, we lead into the final stretch of the song. And what better way to lead into the final stretch than to have a fading, reverbed scream (3:52). I swear, my "DAR Scream" sample still gets so much use to this day, its surprises me honestly (recorded the original sample/clip back in early 2017!). I had a lot of fun playing the solo there in this final part of the song. I will say though, that the really fast bits may not be note-for-note accurate, but I think it still sounds fun and cool! Anyhow, to wrap up, something else that I did here was continue my experiments in bass guitar tone/mixing. I used what I learned from my Maximum Carnage cover, but this time I set up another mixer track to process my bass signal. This new track has the amp sim that I normally use for bass, but I tweaked the settings and also got rid of the cab-sim. From there I wound up blending in this new mixer-track. Its rather subtle when you listen to the whole mix, but by doing this, I found that I was able to help the bass stand alongside the guitars somewhat, rather than live completely under them.
