Visiting Stalin's Home City - Gori, Georgia

I moved on from the old mining city of Chiatura to the city of Gori. Most travellers I had met in Georgia had skipped Gori and the ones that did visit only did so on a day trip to visit the Stalin museum. Joseph Stalin was born in December 1878 in the city of Gori. Following his death, the museum was opened in 1957. Critics of the museum accuse it of glorifying Stalin's reign of power and overlooking the horrors that took place under his leadership. There were plans in 2008, following the South Ossetia war, to reorganise the museum into the Museum of Russian Aggression. A banner at the entrance stated: "This museum is a falsification of history. It is a typical example of Soviet propaganda and it attempts to legitimise the bloodiest regime in history." Today, the museum serves as a unique example of Soviet propaganda containing many inaccuracies about Stalin and the Soviet Union. This is something that seems to be missed by many other vloggers.
