The Children Beyond Chernobyl, Part 6/7
RTE's 2008 powerful and beautifully filmed documentary "Children Beyond Chernobyl" picks up where the Academy Award winning "Chernobyl Heart" left off. The film examines the work of Chernobyl Children's Project International (CCPI) and uses moving, intimate stories to describe how the charity and its volunteers are making a difference in Chernobyl affected regions of Belarus. In this sixth of 7 parts, CCPI founder Adi Roche visits a 33 year old single mother named Natasha in the city of Gomel, Belarus. Natasha, who has a tumor on her spine, takes care of her severely disabled 12 year old boy, Sasha, with the help of CCPI. As she shows all that goes into caring for her very dependent child, she describes how desperately she wants to keep him out of an orphanage as long as she possibly can.
