However, despite this, people forget just how strong he is. He might not be on the level of god-powered Saiyans, but he can hold his own against some powerful enemies. Even before he became a background character, Piccolo was underestimated by characters like Vegeta or Frieza, but time and time again, he proved he could overcome the limits others had placed on him. Examples of this include when he killed Raditz with his Special Beam Cannon in the Saiyan Saga, when he trained Gohan after Goku’s death, when he fought Frieza in the Frieza Saga, when he fought Cell in the Cell Saga and when he stalled Buu in the Buu saga. As you can see, it’s not just battles where Piccolo proved he was more than others thought him to be, he also proved he could be a good surrogate father to Gohan and that he could be useful even when he was outmatched. Suffice to say, Piccolo is much more crucial to the protection of the Earth than people give him credit for.
