Toast the hazelnuts in a pan (without fat) for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until they begin to smell. Remove from heat and let cool. Separate the eggs. Place the butter, sugar, vanilla sugar, and a pinch of salt in a large bowl and beat with a hand mixer until fluffy. Now gradually beat in the egg yolks. Then add the flour and baking powder to the butter mixture and mix. Now also mix in the ground nuts and stir in. The mixture will be very doughy, but this is completely normal. Beat the egg whites until stiff and fold into the batter (do not stir!) until the mixture is creamy and fluffy. Once the batter is creamy, pour the batter into the pan, smooth it out, and bake on the middle rack for about 60 minutes.
