We take a look into the lives of Yao women, who embody their aspirations for longevity, wealth, prosperity, and good fortune in their long hair. Yao women not only possess long hair that does not fall out easily but is also healthy, maintaining its black color even into old age. They begin their daily routine by grooming their hair. Because it is the most precious part of their lives, they manage it in a variety of ways, a practice that takes place very naturally in their daily routines. They consume foods that promote faster hair growth and improve hair quality, and they wash their hair with a unique Yao remedy made from herbs foraged deep in the mountains and fermented rice water to strengthen their hair and maintain its black color. Additionally, they always carry a wooden comb in their hair and comb it with care frequently. For these people, using materials sourced from nature and preserving traditions is an integral part of their daily habits. Yao Women Who Have Accumulated Precious Traditions and Beliefs Over the Long Age Yao unmarried women must cover their heads with a black cloth like a hat to conceal their hair from others, and they are only allowed to show their beautiful hair to their husbands for the first time after marriage. This is also one of the traditions preserved by the Yao people. However, Machi, a young and beautiful woman in the Yao village where the production team stayed, unhesitatingly removes her hat to reveal her hidden hair to the crew, despite being unmarried.
