How to fix a dripping kitchen tap!
Welcome back to the channel on today’s video. I’m gonna show you how to fix a dripping kitchen sink tap. The noise coming from constant drips is enough to make you go crazy and fixing a leaking tap isn’t as hard as you may think you do need to source the right part but that is generally the hardest part. The first thing you need to do is isolate the water going into the tap a quick test is obviously turning the taps on and making sure you have no more water coming out. With the water is isolated because this tap is a turn it uses ceramic cartridges on the inside and we have to gain access to reveal them. Most taps require you to take the handle off and they normally have a small Alan key screw facing towards the back or underneath in the off position so go ahead remove that and that should gain you access to the brass cartridge. The one that I’m working on has an adapter which does adapt from the spline of the cartridge to the tap handle. Because I change and fix taps regularly, I’ve invested in a plumber’s box from tap magician. This holds every single spare part that you will need on majority of domestic taps that use a cartridge style. What you need to do is identify which one is inside your tap so they offer a spleen gauge and then you just match that up with the part and also they have spares in my case I can renew the adapter as well. To get the cartridges out, I always suggest to use a spanner that’s the perfect size for this one. It’s 17 mm and I’m using a ratchet open in spanner as they have the least amount of chance of rounding off. Because brass can be quite soft, you do run the risk of rounding off the material if you’re using a pair of grips or an adjustable spanner if it has lots of play in it. Once you have the cartridge out, you can replace it with a new one. This is generally hot on the left and cold on the right depending on where the blinds finish. Make sure that you handle lines up correctly if it doesn’t then you can try and tighten it up a little bit more and that should make up the difference. should we do everything in reverse? Put the handles on and adapters if required and then turn the water supply back to the tap and hopefully this should’ve stopped your tap from dripping.
