Its appearance has already sparked outrage and active discussions about how the "paper tank" is significantly superior to the real-life IS. Let's take a closer look at this by examining the tank's performance characteristics. The first thing that stands out is the 105mm cannon, with its 320 points of alpha damage, which is decent even by Tier 8 standards, so it looks quite impressive here. Yes, the IS has more, but look at the armor penetration; it's also on par with Tier 8s at Tier 7: 205 mm base armor-piercing (it has good normalization); 242 mm special sub-caliber. However, the Vz. 44-1 gun is much better implemented than the IS. The IS may be better at shooting sparrows, but its accuracy is generally worse, the aiming time is a whopping 1.1 seconds longer, and terrain play is completely irrelevant. Their reload time is almost identical, so the Soviet IS will win in terms of DPM due to its higher alpha. Its HP pool is 1400, which is 170 higher than the IS, which will be even more noticeable with the improved hardening mount. The upper glacis plate's nominal armor is 110 mm, but there are no vulnerable spots there (like the driver's hatch on some tanks). The turret is nominally protected better than 200mm, but the armor plates are angled at right angles, so aiming is unreliable. This is where all the good stuff comes at a price. Its specific power is 14.2 hp/t, so acceleration won't be particularly brisk. The maximum speed is also so-so: 30/14 km/h. Turret and chassis traverse speeds are also below average, so in dynamic firefights, it won't always be possible to react quickly to the situation. However, the view range is pleasing – 370 meters is quite good for a TT 7. Advantages and Disadvantages Let's briefly summarize the Vz. 44-1's characteristics, highlighting its strengths and weaknesses. Pros: Good single-shot damage High armor penetration Gun stabilization Fast aiming Comfortable depression/depression angles Large HP reserve Overview Cons: Poor accuracy Turret armor angled at right angles Weak dynamics Poor maneuverability Conclusion In general, most of the shortcomings are typical for heavy tanks. The main drawback is the turret, but again, it will be difficult to penetrate even with the slightest overshoot, but head-on engagements are easy. Once the Vz. 44-1 takes position, it can confidently hold off the enemy in positional combat, but offensive actions may be problematic (if the turret is kept level).
