CHALKIDA Walking Tour, Natural City Sounds - The City Of CRAZY WATERS | GREECE

The city of Chalkida is located on the island of Evia, the second largest island in Greece. The island can be reached by car since it is connected to the mainland via two bridges. There is a newer suspension bridge and the old bridge that is located in the center of the city and from there you can watch the phenomenon of "crazy waters" in the Gulf of Evia. The sea moves for six hours from the North to the South of the Gulf of Evia, followed by 8 minutes when the waters are stagnant and immediately after start moving for another six hours in the opposite direction. This phenomenon is interrupted during the lunar month by two periods of disturbance, lasting three days, during which the movement of water does not follow certain patterns. So, sometimes they can change direction up to 14 times during the day while othertimes may not move at all in any direction! This is a unique phenomenon that is not met anywhere else on the planet. Hundreds of visitors come from Athens almost every day, though probably not just to see this unique natural phenomenon but also to enjoy the relaxed and warm atmosphere of the city, cafes and bars, walks on the coast and delicious seafood.
