Every year, around 80,000 cases of prostate cancer are diagnosed in Germany. This is usually done by taking a tissue sample from the prostate, a procedure known as a biopsy. In German-speaking countries, this is also often referred to as a "prostate punch biopsy." There are many different methods for taking tissue from the prostate: via the rectum or perineum, under general or local anesthesia, on an outpatient or inpatient basis.
