Dhikr, the key to purify the heart & control the Nafs - Shaykh Ninowy 2/2
Thursday 7th of February 2019 after Maghrib at Masjidul Maahir (Skaapkraal) Dhikr & Naseeha: “Dhikr, the key to purify the heart & control the Nafs” As a Muslim, the spiritual self’s need for purification and nourishment is met through constant immersion in dhikr - ‘remembrance of Allah’. The act of dhikr isn't merely lip service, rather, it is the antidote for the heart’s spiritual illnesses. However, this antidote is only effective when dhikr is performed via the heart’s presence with Allah. The heart’s presence with Allah in dhikr is reached through aspiring and working towards becoming a مؤمن - believer. And as a believer of Allah, this enables one to control one’s nafs – desires. Allah describes who the believers are in the Quraan [23 : 1-10]. Their qualities are that their salaah is performed with خشوع - a present heart, and they avoid time wasting. They always give charity, and abstain from the great sin of adultery. They value a أمانة – trust, and their promise or pledge, and are the inheritors of everything – Dunya, Aakhirah, as well as the Prophet (Sallahu Alayhi wa alihi wa salam). In conclusion, one should hence also be driven towards being of the inheritors, through adopting all these qualities of a believer, and enacting the Prophet's (Sallahu Alayhi wa alihi wa salam) character, nobility, and how he gave charity and performed salaah. The great necessity of embodying the Prophet's (SAW) character has sadly been neglected, and therefore needs to be reinforced in education systems – especially in current times. References 1. Supporting Evidence (in relation to time wasting): Quraan [Ch.103] 2. Supporting Evidence (in relation to taking a pledge): In an authentic hadeeth, it is narrated that the Prophet (Sallahu Alayhi wa alihi wa salam) was asked, ‘When is the Hour?”. He (Sallahu Alayhi wa alihi wa salam) responded saying, “When people don’t understand what a pledge is, then indeed the Hour is near.” And in the hadeeth from Ahmad, he narrated that the Prophet (Sallahu Alayhi wa alihi wa salam) responded regarding the Hour, “When the truthful is belied and the liar is called truthful, and when the treacherous becomes trustworthy and when the trustworthy is called treacherous.” Follow FB @ShaykhNinowy #ThePursuitOfKnowledgeTour https://madinainstitute.org.za/the-pu...
