Rosarito Beach Hotel owner reflects on the state of Baja California tourism
Tourism is a multi-billion dollar industry on both sides of the border and the largest tourism conference in Latin America is underway in Rosarito this week. Hugo Torres runs the 100-year-old Rosarito Beach Hotel. He said winter business was a little slow, but he is optimistic about the future. "I think this is just, temporarily. And we're going to go back to normal by summer," he said. "So I hope that it's not a big recession. Los tarifas, the tariffs—I think they're going to think them over again." Torres says tourism is now an aspect of a bigger economy in Rosarito, thanks to big companies and maquiladoras coming to town.
