Northern Rivers Floods 2022, Woodburn, 8 March 2022

Myself and Olivia Katz from The Heart Atlas recently went down to Woodburn to raise awareness of the devastating effects of the recent floods. The town has been completely wrecked. Words really cannot convey the scope of destruction. I was a bit apprehensive about walking around with a camera and about how the locals would feel about talking on camera during such a heartbreaking time. I was met with friendly faces and an openness to tell their stories. People have lost everything, their house, their car, the entire contents of their home, everything. The community of Woodburn, as well as volunteers from neighbouring communities near and far, have joined together to clean up the town. As devastating as the destruction is, the community spirit is equal in strength. This is the same in my home town of Mullumbimby and other towns who have lost everything. I am in awe of the human beings who have joined together to make a difference. You are all heroes 💛
