How To Position Someone In A Hospital Bed by Yourself@caregiversuccessbynancythenp #bedpositioning
Here's a video on how to position someone in a semi-electric hospital bed that is unable to do so themselves. Preventing decubiti, or "bedsores" is the reason proper positioning is important. If the person is incontinent, has advanced dementia, or does not have the perception to move an extremity, he/she has to be positioned. Positioning needs to be done every 2 hours. You will need a bunch of different sized pillows to make the person comfortable. Always use a chuck to keep the pillows and bed dry. Be sure to tell the person what you are doing. Never leave the person unattended with the bed rail down! This video is perfect for a new caregiver at home or a professional caregiver getting started.
