This video shows trains arriving and departing one after another on the Tohoku Shinkansen platform at JR Tokyo Station (weekday daytime, 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM). The Tohoku Shinkansen's "Hayabusa" (E5 series) and "Yamabiko" (E5 series), the Akita Shinkansen "Komachi" (E6 series) coupled with the "Hayabusa" which runs directly on the Tohoku and Hokkaido Shinkansen, the Yamagata Shinkansen "Tsubasa" (E8 series) coupled with the "Yamabiko," the Joetsu Shinkansen "Toki" (E7 series), and the Hokuriku Shinkansen "Kagayaki," "Hakutaka," and "Asama" (E7 and W7 series). The Yamagata Shinkansen's new "E8 series" trains began operation in March 2024. Platforms 20 to 23 are two-sided, four-track island platforms, all of which are dead-ends. Shinkansen trains for various destinations depart and arrive from each platform. (Next to platform 20 are the Tokaido Shinkansen platforms (platforms 14 and above), and some Nozomi and other trains are visible.) The Komachi E6 series (7 cars) is coupled with the Hayabusa E5 series (10 cars), arriving at Tokyo Station as a 17-car train.
