Queen - Brighton Rock (Without "Carnival Midway" Opening)

"Brighton Rock" was originally conceived for Queen II, but was unfinished at the time and therefore reworked at Wessex and Rockfield Studios for Queen's third LP. The numerous test recordings in the archives testify to the meticulous work that went into every note and word of the song. Brian has publicly stated that when a band member handed a song over to him, Freddie truly infused it with new dimensions, depth, and life that would not have been created otherwise. "Brighton Rock" ranks high in this regard. "Happy Little Fuck" was the working title of this song. It was later referred to as "Happy Little Day," "Blackpool Rock," "Bognor Ballad," "Southend Sea Scout," "Skiffle Rock," and "Herne Bay." Session engineer Mike Stone is likely responsible for some of the titles, although Queen, like most bands, frequently used working titles during the song development process. - Greg Brooks, Official Queen Archivist
