The cash discount rate tells you the percentage of your discount. If you let this discount period expire, you lose your discount benefit. The loss of this discount represents your credit costs. These costs only apply to the period between the cash discount period and the payment due date. If you convert these costs into an annual interest rate (over 360 days), it is generally higher than the interest on an overdraft facility. This makes taking out a loan to receive the discount worthwhile.
