Is a small gun really a compromise? With this question in mind, we came to the test of the new Heckler & Koch CC9, shortly after it arrived in Israel. Towards the end of the previous decade, gun manufacturers realized that the next trend in the world of weapons was micro-compact, lightweight, and user-friendly pistols designed for everyday carry. It didn't take long for gun shops to start offering tiny pistols like the Glock 26 and the Sig Sauer P365, with the latter becoming a real hit in the US. Other manufacturers immediately jumped on the bandwagon and launched a slew of tiny models to keep up - Smith's little Shield, Springfield's Hellcat and many others. Helker & Koch, it seems, took their time and came late to the party, to the extent that their competitors already had generations of updates before they launched their first model. But they didn't fall asleep on guard, they were busy with a very long research and development process that lasted over seven years. Why? Because they wanted to launch a good gun. A reliable, high-quality and truly prestigious gun. The development involved a very difficult abuse process for durability testing, in which, in addition to being immersed in mud, dust, water, freezing and heat in harsh conditions, the guns were also fired, according to them, 750,000 rounds before received a "Kosher Certificate" for marketing. In a previous experiment, the new CC9 was manufactured entirely in the company's factories in the US and not in Germany, in order to bring it closer to the target market, while avoiding import taxes that would have led to an increase in the price of the finished product.
