Scattered rain and cooler than average temperatures around New Mexico

Passing high-level clouds and leftover lower-level clouds with hardly if any showers are present with somewhat-gusty east-gap winds bringing in low-level moisture again through the Rio Grande Valley into even far-western New Mexico in lieu of yesterday's thunderstorms. Temperatures are starting off seasonably mild to cool. Some patchy haze from fire smoke has mostly migrated or dispersed to far-northern to western parts of our viewing area, but visibility is mostly good, despite the slightly more-humid start for many. Similar to slightly lower temperatures are present than yesterday morning with mostly around-average temperatures. Northern areas are mostly starting off slightly above average in the upper 40s to 60s. Elsewhere to the south, air temperatures are mostly ranging from the high 50s to around 70° in southern areas. High temperatures will mostly be around average to the north and west to at least slightly below average for most areas of New Mexico to the southeast. Many areas from eastern New Mexico to the Pecos River Valley area will range from the upper 70s to just below 90° from north-northwest to south-southeast from high to low elevation. The northern higher elevations will mostly range from the 60s to near 70°, while the northern valley floors to western and central areas will mostly range from the 80s to the lower 90s. Sinking, compressing air with the drifting Monsoon high pressure system aloft farther to the northwest, as well as some sunshine, will still lead to daytime heating fueling thunderstorms. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms, which will form in more of the mountains to most corners of the region, as well as more parts of the Rio Grande Valley, may be capable of producing downpours of rain, some hail, very erratic wind gusts, and frequent lightning strikes. Surrounding the Monsoon high pressure ridge in the western half of the country, trapped upper-level moisture is being stretched out across the region from the east, as well as some lower-level moisture from the Gulf to the southeast. Consequently, more thunderstorms will continue to form this week with slightly cooler temperatures close to if not a bit below average.
