A massive earthquake occurred in Kumamoto Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan, at 16:27 on July 28. The magnitude of the earthquake was 7.1. The maximum intensity was recorded as 7. Intensity 7 is the highest level on the Japanese seismic intensity scale. This is the first time this year that a maximum intensity of 7 has been recorded. There are areas in the southern region of South Korea where tremors from this earthquake have been felt. Aftershocks are currently continuing.
