Airbus H145M Revealed: Germany's Next-Gen Helicopter

Airbus Helicopters is set to deliver the first of 61 H145M helicopters to the Bundeswehr by the end of the year, marking a major upgrade to Germany’s military fleet. The H145M will replace the aging Tiger attack helicopters, which face decommissioning by 2032 due to reliability issues. The contract for these helicopters, signed in December 2023, is the largest order for the H145M, with 57 destined for the Army and five for the Air Force, plus an option for 20 more. While the H145M is praised for its versatility in various roles, including light attacks and special operations, some experts question its combat effectiveness compared to the heavily armed Tiger. Nonetheless, this acquisition underscores Germany’s commitment to modernizing its defense capabilities.
