Markovac Našički, located within the Osijek-Baranja County, is a charming settlement that belongs to the town of Našice. Positioned to the east of Našice, it serves as a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of urban life. The village is bordered by Velimirovac to the north, Jelisavac to the east, and Vukojevci to the south. Markovac Našički holds a fascinating history dating back to the late 19th century when the first residents arrived from northern Slovakia in 1877, invited by Count Pejačević. These settlers played a crucial role in clearing forests and cultivating new agricultural land. In 1880, the village was officially named Markovac after the first-born child of the Drozd family. The godmother of the child, Countess Gabrijela Pejačević, wife of Ladislav Pejačević (who later became the Ban of Croatia), named the child Marko in memory of her deceased son, giving rise to the village's name, Markovac. A notable landmark in the village is the Chapel of St. Mark, constructed in 1913. Serving as the seat of the Roman Catholic Parish of St. Mark, the village also hosts affiliated churches in Jelisavac, Breznica Našička, Lađanska, and Vukojevci. The parish, under the Našice Deanery of the Požega Diocese, celebrates its feast day or "kirvaj" (patron saint celebration) on April 25.
