William Padilla-Brown is a visionary educator, entrepreneur, and citizen scientist doing incredible work in the mushroom, cannabis, and DNA analysis space. He's also credited with popularizing the cultivation and use of cordyceps in the United States through his business MycoSymbiotics. This summer, William visited North Spore to talk with us about his background in mycology and create this walk-through on cultivating cordyceps mushrooms at home. Cordyceps are an incredible medicinal mushroom with a long history of use amongst Tibetan peoples and in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Wild Cordyceps sinensis is harvested in Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan, and the Indian state of Sikkim. Though there is a long history of foraging and using wild Cordyceps sinensis, most of the supplements found around the world are actually made from cultivated Cordyceps militaris.
