The next lecture in the series focused on the idea of ​​"urban wandering" as a way to experience space and practice mindfulness in the realities of optimized and accelerated smart cities. Wandering, understood as free, aimless wandering, offers an alternative to the daily rush and the treatment of urban spaces as purely functional. To quote Belgian architect and performer Francis Alÿs: "Walking, and especially wandering or strolling, seems in itself an act of resistance to today's culture, which values ​​speed." A free and mindful wandering allows us to notice details that slip away in the flow of the day. And its essential ingredient is the senses. They open new perspectives and become guides to these familiar and less familiar spaces. To see, we must feel, and to hear, it's worth opening our eyes. During the meeting, we will consider how to discover potential, decipher meaning, and capture inspiration from courtyards, streets, squares, and places we pass every day. The lecture was led by Kasia Kwiecień-Kurpiel, who describes herself as follows: "I passionately observe how tenement houses in Wrocław are changing, admire their details, and enjoy listening to the stories of the people who live there. I like it when ordinary things tell extraordinary stories, which is why I explore not only great architecture but also the objects we surround ourselves with. I believe that each of them is also a lesson in everyday aesthetics, not a work of art, unless it's a work of life. My day job is marketing and brand image management, and I also teach classes at the University of Wrocław." ✶ The School of Neighborhood Walks is part of the "Art of Walking – City as a Creative Space" project, which treats walks as a tool for exploring, telling stories, and co-creating the city. It's a way to build relationships, discover local stories, and strengthen empowerment in our immediate surroundings. This year, we're focusing on the creative and artistic potential of walks and their role in social activities. Funded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund – a state-funded special-purpose fund. ✶ The School of Neighborhood Walks is organized by the Wrocław Institute of Culture – a new type of institution: supporting niche, non-commercial initiatives; researching the cultural sector and developing the skills of its creators; creating collaboration networks; and organizing unconventional cultural events that are the result of our experiments.
