If the arm dislocates due to an accident or injury, damage often occurs in the shoulder joint. Because of this damage, the shoulder can then dislocate again with increasing ease in the future. Surgery can repair this damage, thereby making the shoulder more stable again. My name is Bauke Kooistra, and I am a shoulder and elbow surgeon at Medische Kliniek Velsen. In my videos, I provide medical information that I normally share with my patients in the consulting room. In this video, I provide an overview of the most common surgeries for a shoulder that keeps dislocating. In the video, I discuss the following surgeries: 1. Repairing the shoulder labrum (‘Bankart repair’). If necessary, we can also fill a dent in the humeral head (‘remplissage’) during this operation. 2. Enlarging the shoulder socket using a bone graft (‘Latarjet’). I will then explain what the surgeries entail, which surgery is advisable in which situation, and what the results and possible complications are.
