Soul Asylum’s Dave Pirner on Drag Racing, Roller Coasters, and the Pre-Internet Era Soul Asylum’s Dave Pirner joins Kyle Meredith to talk about the band’s new album, Slowly But Shirley. The rock icon talks about working with producer Steve Jordan, who helmed 1990’s And The Horse They Rode In On, his knack for narrative and story songs, and the luxuries of coming up in the pre-internet era. Pirner also reveals the album title’s inspiration and how it references the first female drag racer, Shirley Muldowney, as well as why he’s a card carrying member of the Roller Coaster Society, and why he doesn’t feel a need to represent all of their songs live.
