Every shot from my round at Newport Links Golf Club, Newport, Pembrokeshire on 23rd September 2025. 👉 Many more every shot golf vlogs here    • 18 Hole, Every Shot Golf Round Vlogs   Coastal golf courses can always provide that little something extra, even more so when you have the weather to enjoy the location and the views that accompany their setting. I was planning on playing three such courses on my West Wales mini break, Newport Links being the second of these. Fortunately the forecasted weather was spot on and I arrived at Newport Sands Links on the perfect autumn morning. Not a breath of wind, sunshine and luckily for filming purposes, a quiet course. Just a few minutes from the town of Newport, the clubhouse is just a few hundred yards from the beach car park, offering superb views over Newport Bay. Stepping on to the first tee you are immediately presented with the fabulous view out towards the bay and the hills beyond. This remains an ever present as you continue around the course, a wonderful distraction from how good or bad your golf may be. The front nine is the hillier of the two being played mostly across the hill it lies on. The only major climb is that on the quirky 9th where you face two blind shots, the first steeply uphill and the second sharply downhill to a hidden green. Other than that, the course is a very manageable walk, with many distracting views. The course was originally a nine hole design by the legendary James Braid back in 1925. This was finally extended to a full 18 holes in 2008. The two nines have a slightly different feel with the back nine having more of a traditional links feel to them over the slightly more parkland first nine. The two complement each other well and with the views to take in and a great quality course, it really doesn't matter how you classify them! When I played the Pembrokeshire area had suffered massive amounts of rainfall days earlier and also greens maintenance had recently taken place. Despite this the course held up brilliantly and even if the greens weren't at their very best, you could see the underlying quality. The conditions were fairly benign for most of my round but as with any coastal course, you can imagine the challenge wind brings and by the time I reached the signature par 3 15th hole with its very small green, this challenge was elevated and added several clubs to what was already a difficult shot. I was really impressed with Newport Links and loved the variety of holes on offer. The second shot into 8 will live long in the memory as will the views that accompany your walk round this fabulous course.
