ಒಂದು ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಕತ್ತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಒಂದು ಕುದುರೆ ಒಂದೇ ಮಾಲೀಕರ ಬಳಿ ವಾಸಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು. ಕುದುರೆ ತುಂಬಾ ಅಹಂಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಕತ್ತೆಯನ್ನು ತಿರಸ್ಕರಿಸಿ ಕೀಳಾಗಿ ನೋಡುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಒಂದು ದಿನ ಅವು ತಮ್ಮ ಮಾಲೀಕರ ಜೊತೆ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊರಟವು. ಕತ್ತೆಯ ಬೆನ್ನಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ತುಂಬಾ ಭಾರವಾದ ಹೊರೆ ಇತ್ತು. ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ದೂರ ನಡೆದ ತಕ್ಷಣವೇ ಆ ಭಾರವನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತುಕೊಂಡು ಕತ್ತೆ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಆಯಾಸಗೊಂಡು ರಸ್ತೆಯ ಬದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಲಗಿಬಿಟ್ಟಿತು. ಇದನ್ನು ಕಂಡ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಿ, ಕತ್ತೆಗೆ ಇನ್ನು ಮುಂದೆ ನಡೆಯಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಶಾಂತವಾಗಿ ಅರ್ಥಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡನು. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅವನು ಕತ್ತೆಯ ಮೇಲಿದ್ದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸಾಮಾನುಗಳನ್ನು ಇಳಿಸಿ, ಕತ್ತೆಯನ್ನೂ ಹಾಗೂ ಆ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಭಾರವನ್ನೂ ಕುದುರೆಯ ಬೆನ್ನಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಏರಿಸಿದನು. ಈಗ ಯಾವ ಕುದುರೆ ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಕತ್ತೆಯನ್ನು ತಿರಸ್ಕರಿಸಿ ಕೀಳಾಗಿ ನೋಡುತ್ತಿತ್ತೋ, ಅದೇ ಕುದುರೆಗೆ ಕತ್ತೆಯ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಭಾರವನ್ನೂ ಹೊರುವ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಎದುರಾಯಿತು. Once, a donkey and a horse lived under the same owner. The horse was arrogant and always looked down on the donkey. One day, they set out on a journey with their owner. The donkey was carrying a very heavy load, but after walking for some distance, it became exhausted and collapsed on the road. Seeing this, the owner realized the donkey could not continue. He removed all the luggage from the donkey and loaded both the donkey and the entire load onto the horse.
