Students will have to sacrifice their selfishness and self-interest for the sake of leading a moral life. But you cannot find such a sacred feeling of sacrifice in students of today. Students are filled with selfishness, whether it is with reference to getting marks or getting a seat in the bus. I should alone get the first marks. I should alone get the first seat. How many more people are there who are less fortunate than us who need that great help? Only when students develop that kind of equality will we have given up selfishness. Today's students are speculating and live in hypothetical scenarios, thinking that by getting degrees, using them to get high-paid jobs, and then earning wealth, gold, material possessions, and vehicles will give them peace and prosperity. But students are developing a few weak misconceptions. Students are under the impression that wealth, gold, material possessions, and vehicles are going to bring them peace and happiness. And hence they are drowning in this well of delusion that wealth, gold, material possessions, and vehicles are the most important things in life. This is a great mistake. This is a wrong opinion. What is the secret behind those great, wealthy, prosperous people belonging to the lineage of Kubera approaching the people who have given up all worldly things, like Yathirajas? Take Emperor Shivaji. He had at his command all the wealth, gold, material possessions, and vehicles. But why did he resort to taking refuge with Samartha Ramdas? Emperor Janaka also did not lack wealth, prosperity, or vehicles. But why did he approach Yajnavalkya? Similarly, Parikshit Maharaj, he also had all the worldly possessions of wealth and prosperity. Why did he seek refuge in Suka Maharshi? If only wealth and prosperity could confer peace and happiness, there is no meaning in these kings taking refuge with these great Sanyasins and Maharshis for peace. Take Duryodhana and Dushyashana. They also had at their command everything that they wanted. But still, they had to endure lack of peace and difficulties because they did not resort to following the Divinity in their lives. Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu were also extremely powerful. Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu, who had complete control over the five elements within their hands, expanded their knowledge extensively; they acquired all types of strengths. They got hold of all the riches, gold, material possessions, and vehicles in their grasp, but what kind of peace and happiness did they enjoy? What was the reason? The reason is that they did not have faith in Divinity. They dedicated their entire life to physical comforts and worldly luxuries. Dear students, physical and worldly powers and capabilities are indeed necessary, but they are not our foundation, nor are they the goals of life. Our livelihood has emerged from God and not from any other outside source. Therefore, having full faith and dedicating our lives to morality is the only way human life will become a Divine life. And only then can one enjoy happiness and peace, without having to suffer from lack of peace or difficulties. Therefore, do not aspire to acquire education for the sake of getting wealth, position, power, and such other worldly things or for the sake of acquiring peace and happiness. The power and the wealth that you have are directly associated proportionately with lack of peace and fear. These two will follow like shadows. Just as our shadow follows us, so also do lack of peace and difficulties follow peace and happiness. This is the world. This world is full of duality. Between two pains only there is pleasure in this world. You cannot get happiness out of happiness. Only from sorrow can you get happiness. Dear students, we must confront hardships, losses, sorrows, and anxieties, achieve our goals within this lifetime, and through that, attain peace and happiness. You should not consider human life as something ordinary and simple. We should believe in life as something sacred, Divine, grand, and ever-new.
