Jazz San Javier tiene el placer de ofrecer a los aficionados el regreso al festival de uno de los pianistas de jazz que mas admiramos. Bill Charlap es uno de los pianistas que mejor recrea los estandars y uno de los mas deliciosos solistas del bop y el hard bop. Durante su carrera ha tocado con gigantes del jazz como Tony Bennett, Clark Terry, Gerry Mulligan, Phil Woods o Sheila Jordan, entre muchos otros. Fue ganador del premio al mejor pianista de jazz del año 2003 otorgado por la Jazz Journalist Association y es el Director de los Estudios de Jazz en la William Paterson University en Wayne, Nueva Jersey. Su maravilloso álbum con Tony Bennett “The Silver Lining: the songs of Jerome Kern”, confiere un gran valor sentimental a su visita al festival, tras la desaparición del gran Tony Bennett el año pasado. Pues dicho álbum, junto a los que grabó Tony con Bill Evans en los años setenta del siglo XX, ha sido uno de los mejores que grabó el legendario cantante en toda su carrera y uno de los hitos en la fantástica discografía de Bill Charlap. Bill Charlap is one of the pianists who best recreates standards and one of the most delicious bop and hard bop soloists. During his career he has played with jazz giants such as Tony Bennett, Clark Terry, Gerry Mulligan, Phil Woods and Sheila Jordan, among many others. He was the recipient of the Jazz Journalist Association's 2003 Jazz Pianist of the Year award and is the Director of Jazz Studies at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey. His wonderful album with Tony Bennett “The Silver Lining: the songs of Jerome Kern” gives great sentimental value to his visit to the festival, after the disappearance of the great Tony Bennett last year. Well, this album, along with those that Tony recorded with Bill Evans in the seventies of the 20th century, has been one of the best that the legendary singer recorded in his entire career and one of the milestones in Bill Charlap's fantastic discography.
