¿Cómo hacer el recuento de RETICULOCITOS?

While the ideal is to obtain the reticulocyte count automatically using a hematology analyzer capable of this, in many situations this method will not be available, and we must know how to perform the manual technique for this purpose. Reticulocytes are the last link in the erythropoiesis chain before the mature erythrocyte and are characterized by containing remnants of RNA, which confer their staining affinity to supravital dyes, such as new methylene blue or brilliant cresyl blue. We speak of a reticulocyte when we observe dark blue material inside an erythrocyte that is not a small circle (Heinz body). At least 1,000 cells must be counted to obtain the percentage result. With this data and the number of erythrocytes counted by the hematology analyzer, we can calculate the absolute reticulocyte count. Reticulocytes are ordered by physicians primarily to classify anemias into hyporegenerative and hyperregenerative, or as a follow-up to treatment for a previously diagnosed anemia.
