I recently had an interesting conversation with a friend who is a self-identifying atheist. He often asks about issues of faith, various religions, Christianity, etc., and at one point, we talked about what happens after death. He said, “I am a pretty good guy so if there is a God I should be okay.” My response was, “Being pretty good isn’t good enough. We have to be perfect.” He was taken aback a bit and said, “No one can be perfect!” I told him the Apostle Paul and other biblical writers agreed (Romans 3:10-12, Psalm 14:1-3, Psalm 53:1-3), but there is One Who is, Jesus Christ, to live a perfect life, and died in our place that we may receive His righteousness by faith. I told him that is what it means to be a Christian. Far too few understand what it means to be a Christian, but they need to.
