Her acting debut was in the suspense thriller Uljhan (1975), opposite Sanjeev Kumar. In Anil Ganguly's Sankoch (1976), based on the novel Parineeta, she played the role of Lolita. Other notable films include Hera Pheri, Apnapan, Khandaan, Chehre Pe Chehra, Dharam Kanta, and Waqt Ki Deewar. In 1978, she appeared in the Bengali film Bandie, opposite Uttam Kumar. Alongside acting, Sulakshana pursued a successful singing career. She started as a child singer with the song "Saat Samundar Paar Se" alongside Lata Mangeshkar in the 1967 film Taqdeer. She went on to sing with renowned musicians such as Kishore Kumar and Hemant Kumar, performing in multiple languages including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Oriya, and Gujarati. In 1980, she released a ghazal album titled Jazbaat. Over the years, she sang duets with notable singers like Mohammed Rafi, Yesudas, Shailender Singh, Mahendra Kapoor, and Udit Narayan, under the direction of music legends such as Shankar Jaikishan, Laxmikant Pyarelal, Kalyanji Anandji, Khayyam, and Bappi Lahiri. In 1986, she performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London during the "Festival of Indian Music" concert. Her final singing contribution was an alaap in the song "Saagar Kinare Bhi Do Dil" from the 1996 film Khamoshi: The Musical, composed by her brothers Jatin and Lalit. Personal Life Sulakshana hails from a distinguished musical family from Pilimandori Village in Haryana. Her uncle, the legendary classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj, was a towering figure in Indian music. Another uncle, Vasant Kumar Pandit, was a prominent political figure and former Rajgarh MP. Sulakshana began singing at the age of nine, often performing with her elder brother Mandheer Pandit, who was part of the Mandheer–Jatin music duo in the 1980s. Together, they performed in numerous stage shows with icons like Kishore Kumar and Mohammed Rafi. She has three brothers—Mandheer, Jatin, and Lalit Pandit—and three sisters—Maya Anderson, Sandhya Singh, and Vijayta Pandit. Her father, Pratap Narain Pandit, was an acclaimed classical vocalist. Her family also includes nephew Yash Pandit, a television actor, and nieces Shraddha and Shweta Pandit, both playback singers. Her cousin is the playback singer Hemlata.
