NOW... As a 7 year old at the time, I naturally had an intense dislike of Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club after that match BUT as I grew older I gained an understanding on Brighton's position at the time and have really grown an admiration for the club 🤔 Had Brighton got relegated in 97 - it's pretty certain they would have gone bust. Their controversial owner sold their Goldstone Ground, where BHA had played football since 1902. They had debts mounting up and there was a decline in the club's form on the pitch as well as off it. After 2 years ground sharing with Gillingham, they returned home and started playing at the Withdean Stadium - an athletics stadium! They played there from 1999-2011 until they moved into the beautiful Falmer Stadium or the American Express Community Stadium for sponsorship reasons...
