Reinback Helpful Or Harmful?

Reinback is often used as a strengthening exercise for horses, especially when people want to improve the core, lift the thoracic sling, build better balance, or improve body awareness. But reinback is only helpful if the horse is doing it in a way that improves posture and function. In this video, I explain when reinback can be a useful exercise — and when it may actually reinforce the very compensations you are trying to improve. A horse can step backwards while bracing, hollowing, dropping through the chest, leaning into the shoulders, swinging the quarters, or disconnecting through the body. When that happens, the exercise may look correct from the outside, but functionally it is not giving you the benefit you think it is. The important question is not simply: did the horse go backwards? The real question is: how did the horse organise their body to go backwards? When used well, reinback can help improve balance, postural awareness, thoracic lift, coordination, and connection through the body. But when used without observing the quality of the movement, it can become just another way for the horse to strengthen an existing compensation pattern. This video will help you start to recognise the difference. #reinback #horsetraining #groundwork #equinebiomechanics #horserehabilitation #horsecorestrength #thoracicsling #holistichorsetraining www.longdrovedc.co.uk
