Stalingrad Relief - Play 3 - Can't Get No Soviet Defensive Satisfaction

UPDATE 5/20/26: Getting some viewer feedback on rules issues. So far notes on attacks and on movement. The movement is likely more significant. I’ll try another rep at some point, taking the feedback into account. Hopefully the balance will be better. ** Take any balance comments in this video with a grain, better yet a tablespoon of salt. **** Be aware that this video and the entire series is using a Clear Hex MP cost of 1. The TEC specifies a cost of 2. This strongly benefits the Axis side, even though both sides are using the same MP cost. Rep 3. The Soviets just can't get it together. They do manage to form a line at the Aksay, which is easily bypassed. Unable to position enough units to form even a weak line in front of the Axis. In the near future I plan to play the Stalingrad Relief scenario from OCS Enemy at the Gates. I will compare their order of battle and dispositions with those in this game. In any event I had fun playing this iteration of Battles in the East. It is satisfying for solo play. Update: I checked OCS Enemy at the Gates setup in Vassal this morning (5/18/26) and 51A is very sparse south of the Aksay - that is reassuring: indicates a play issue on my part. Maybe one more rep at some point. Battles in the East: Stalingrad Relief, repetition 3, Turns 1-3 (1-2??) - Exploration Completed. Key Red dice are odds Yellow dice are the die rolls X markers are attacks Grey and Red arrows are movement. Sometimes Red arrows show retreats. Used a few black arrows to supplement.
