History of Kenton Middle School, Kenton, Ohio Kenton Middle School has a long and rich history that reflects the evolution of the city’s education system. Origins and Early Years Construction of the current Middle School building began in 1938, and it was dedicated in 1940. The design was by architect Thomas McLaughlin from Lima, Ohio. At the time, the building served as Kenton High School. Transition to Middle School In 1961, a new high school building was constructed and dedicated in 1963. With the new high school in place, the original 1940 building was repurposed as a Junior High School and later became Kenton Middle School.
