The Funicular Railway at the Centre for Alternative Technology, Machynlleth
The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth in Mid-Wales opened a funicular railway in 1992 that is one of the steepest in the world and uses the water balance principle. It transports visitors up a 100 feet or so from the car park to the centre.
