A press conference for the "1st International Friendly KICK BOXING WORLD CUP" (May 14th, Ota Ward General Gymnasium), whose executive committee includes former K-1 fighters Masaaki Satake, Musashi, and Ernest Honest, was held in Tokyo on April 26th. Acting Chairman Satake has been away from the forefront of the MMA scene in recent years, but with the cooperation of Musashi, Hoost, Peter Aerts, Ray Sefo, and others, this tournament will carry on the DNA of early K-1. Satake said, "This is a world we've been waiting for for 20 years." While expressing understanding that surviving in the MMA industry can be tough for fighters, he declared, "You have to make a living for yourself. I want to gather more and more fighters with that kind of mindset." Hoost commented, "I sincerely hope that this event will bring back memories of the popular days of K-1 and help kickboxing become recognized as a major sport." Musashi expressed his strong desire to "develop more Japanese heavyweight fighters," and declared, "I remember the time when the heavyweight division was the only one, so I want to make the heavyweight division popular again."
