Before 2006, England hadn't had an operating whisky distillery for more than a century. The last of the old English whisky distilleries had disappeared in the early 1900s, leaving England without a whisky industry of its own. Then Andrew Nelstrop and his family decided to change that. When they opened St George's Distillery (now The English Distillery) in Norfolk, they weren't joining an industry. They were rebuilding one.
