Your Brain Might Have Formed Five Minutes Ago | Science Documentary for Sleep

Your brain might have assembled itself five minutes ago — memories, childhood, name and all — and there is no test you could run to prove that it didn't. It sounds like science fiction. It isn't. It's a real and genuinely unsettling problem in modern cosmology, and it has a name: the Boltzmann brain. This is a feature-length sleep documentary that walks all the way down into that idea, and climbs back out the other side. It begins with Ludwig Boltzmann and a stray thought he set down in 1895, follows the one-way arrow of time out into an eternal, freezing universe, and arrives at the moment the equations quietly suggest that almost every mind that has ever thought "I am here" is wrong about how it got here. Then it turns back toward the light: why the idea cannot even be believed without unravelling itself, why you are almost certainly real after all, and why the newest measurements of dark energy may be closing the door on the whole thing for good. Every claim is grounded in real physics; the speculative parts are flagged as speculative. Best experienced in the dark, drifting toward sleep.
