The video shows an example of inserting an intravenous catheter. Each case is unique; the video provides a general overview and guidelines. Additional considerations: 1. Do not apply pressure to the vein with a tourniquet or by hand for too long, as the vessel may rupture during puncture. 2. If possible, flush the catheter before securing it, thus preventing blood clots. After securing it, flush it to ensure the catheter has not shifted during securing. P.S. Aggressive animals often prevent us from flushing the catheter before securing it. We apply force, which can cause the catheter to come out of the vein or become bent. Please keep this in mind. 3. For hairless animals, it is best to begin securing the catheter with a non-sticky tail or use a napkin underneath. Otherwise, marks and irritation from the adhesive will remain. 4. To prevent complications, we use a puncture method that involves not directly puncturing the skin and the vein, but first moving the skin, puncturing it, and then entering the vein. 5. We begin inserting the catheter as low as possible. If insertion is unsuccessful (the pet flinched, the catheter size is incorrect, or the skin is thick), we can try moving it higher than the puncture site (not lower!!!!), leaving space for a second attempt on one limb.
