Episode 1299 Ray (Neville Buswell) is nursing a hangover after celebrating his pools win. He explains to Len (Peter Adamson), Rita (Barbara Knox) and Jerry (Graham Haberfield) that the money belongs to him as none of the other members of the syndicate actually paid their stakes. Maggie (Irene Sutcliffe) repeats Ray’s claim to Bet (Julie Goodyear), but she dismisses it. Glyn (Alan David) criticises Betty (Betty Driver) for speaking against the fruit machine and warns he could replace her. Bet puts Betty wise that Glyn has hinted Annie (Doris Speed) might be leaving the Rovers for good. Elsie (Pat Phoenix) remembers that Stan (Bernard Youens) was meant to hand Ray the pools money. Alan (Alan Browning) confronts Stan who lies and assures him the stake money was handed over. Glyn hires a pop group, Sticky George, to perform in the Rovers’ select, much to the annoyance of Ken (Bill Roache) and Albert (Jack Howarth). Ray starts a row when he makes it clear that he is the only one receiving any money. Albert complains to Len about the pop group performing in the Rovers. Rita asks Jerry to speak to Mavis (Thelma Barlow) about hiding the Playboy magazines from display at The Kabin. Len warns Glyn to keep the noise down at the Rovers. Stan admits to Hilda (Jean Alexander) that he spent the stake money he was given instead of handing it over. Hilda breaks down and tells Stan she is ashamed of him.
