Alderney Island Live | Puffin and Seal webcam | PuffinCam - Ocean Wildlife Webcam 2026-07-06
Live views of Puffins and seals on the wild seabird island of Burhou in the Atlantic. The island is closed to the public to protect the wildlife, and you can watch nature at its very best! The PuffinCam is located on the tiny seabird island of Burhou, just off Alderney's north coast. Discover the fascinating lives of Alderney’s puffins and seals through our live webcam from the heart of the Puffin colony on Burhou, as well as a host of other seabirds and wildlife. Things to watch out for in a year of Puffin Cam ---------------------------------------------------- March: grey seals resting on the shore and the first puffins arrive on the water April: the puffins are back on Burhou, and they begin cleaning out their burrows May - June: puffin chicks hatch and parents bring fish back to their burrows. Also look out for lots of gull chicks July: Puffin chicks fledge! -------------------------------------------------- The main webcam is perfect for getting an overview of the main puffin colony area, with views of lots of the burrows. Look out for flying mud as the puffins re-dig and shape burrows, and later, puffins bringing back material like weed and grass to line their nest. Later in the season, from the end of May, the puffins will be bringing back fish for the pufflings inside. You might even be lucky enough to see a puffling leave the burrow for the first and final time at night in July! They head straight out to sea and won't return to land until they themselves are ready to breed from about 5 years of age. On the webcams you will be able to see Puffins, Herring Gulls, Lesser Black-backed Gulls and Great Black-backed Gulls. Gulls often hover by the burrows, waiting for the puffins to bring back fish which they will try and steal - known as kleptoparasitism. Rabbits also often appear in the camera as they share the burrow area with the puffins, sometimes even leading to a stand off! In recent years we have also spotted Peregrines, Buzzards and Curlew on the cameras. The cameras are infra-red (harmless to wildlife), meaning you can watch Burhou's nightlife - try and catch a glimpse of Storm Petrels at night too. The Alderney Wildlife Trust is one of the 46 Wildlife Trusts working across the British Isles. Support from our members and volunteers allows us to manage over 130 hectares of terrestrial land for wildlife - quite considerable on an island of only 800 hectares. We also manage over 20km of footpath to ensure public access to the Island's countryside whilst minimising the impact on the wildlife that lives there. We work with the local community to engage them with their natural environment in order to protect Alderney's wildlife for the future.
