EP 14 Great Swinburne to Ridsdale - The Grand Tour of Northumberland

25th May 2019 Join us on our walk of historic Northumberland as we continue our hike. Packed full of history and beautiful scenery. UK hiking at its best in England's least populated county. Please SUBSCRIBE so you don't miss any future sections. ----- If you would like to support me, I am raising money for surgery in Spain: https://gofund.me/045d82ea ----- A big thank you to Mark Brimacombe (   / @markbrimphoto  ) and Amanda Thorpe for buying me a coffee via Ko-fi. I aim to make a dedicated video to my supporters but my first attempt failed to record any sound. I will be going to Scotland in August and promise to film something dedicated to my Ko-fi supporters while I am there. Thank you for your kindness. Section 14: Great Swinburne to Ridsdale Starting from where we finished last time at Great Swinburne my original route was to double back up the North Tyne Valley directly to Bellingham. However, I felt that this missed out some pretty cool places around Ridsdale and West Woodburn. So I altered our route several times trying to find the most optimal walk for scenery and points of interest before settling on this section and section 15 which will eventually take us to Bellingham. In this walk we start by visiting one of the few remaining tithe barns in Northumberland. This is followed by a short stretch of walking the old Roman road, Dere Street which is now mostly part of the A68. Before heading to a series of reservoirs and lakes. We also manage to visit an old tower dating from the wars of Scottish independence and St Aidan's church at Thockrington which is the final resting place of three very interesting characters. After visiting Sweethope Loughs, we make our way to the spectacular crags of Great Wanney before concluding our walk at Ridsdale. To be continued...
